One impact of human population increase is deforestation. Forest is an ecosystem dominated by plants. Forest a complex ecosystem. For plants, forest is their habitat. Beside of plant, forest is also habitat for shrub, moss, ferns, lichen, and fungi. For animals, forest is habitat, food provider, and protection area. Forest is also very important for
human life. Forest is an important natural resource for producting various products, such as wood and rattan. Forest also produces oxygen, absorbs pollutans, prevents erosion and flood, preserves water cycle balance, and seasonal stability.

One type of forest that has high biodiversity is tropical rainforest located at tropical areas. Indonesia has widest tropical rainforest in the world after Brazil. Like other developing countries, Indonesia relies on forest as source of national income. Therefore, forest exploitation happens. Illegal logging, clearing using burning method, and forest firing, make this bad condition is increasingly acute.

The plants in the water penerate area are also cut. Generally, illegal logging in mountain area is done in order to prepare lands for agriculture and constructing villa. In urban area, plants start being difficult to find since many of them are cut and the land are covered with cement or asphalt. More paved yards will also reduce soil capability to absorb water. These are main factors causing flood.

Due to their functions, forest should be preserved. Forest preservation can be done if human awareness increased highly. The goverment also hope the citizen to make water penerated wells autonomously.
